- Low Ropes & High Ropes
Move from your comfort zone to the hallowed stretch where Lewis Hamilton, Lance Armstrong and Roger Federer operate consistently. It’s all about preparation and mental strength. Your teams will be tasked to complete challenges that bring effective team work to the fore. A 10m climbing wall, low ropes and then high ropes. A ropes course is a series of supervised individual and group challenges that can be used for recreational, educational, developmental and therapeutic purposes. They are not assault courses or adventure playgrounds. They are very versatile facilities, which have been designed to meet the needs of a wide range of different user groups. Effective participation in a ropes course program is not dependent on strength or physical fitness; however, an open minded sense of adventure and the ability to have fun are essential!Low-ropes elements are predominantly team-based problem-solving and attitude changing exercises.
Group initiatives, also called team courses or Low-ropes courses, are problems or obstacles that challenge groups, both mentally and physically.
These challenges require teamwork to be completed successfully. All participants must work together to accomplish the tasks and they act as safety systems for one another.
These activities allow the Frontier Events trainer or facilitator to work with the group, helping them to deal with teamwork objectives, and preparing them for bigger challenges found in the everyday world. Our staff is versed in applying these challenges to their everyday working life.
High-ropes elements can be both personal and team based challenges and usually involve some degree of perceived risk.
Ropes courses can be seen as the ultimate group, or individual challenge.
Ropes courses are vertical obstacle courses that make extensive use of safety equipment to keep participants from danger.
Working with peoples’ natural discomfort for heights, but using safety equipment to reduce real risk assists them to gently transcend from comfort to the stretch zone, thereby unifying the team.
When groups or individuals go up on a ropes course there is a great opportunity for them to learn about calculated risk taking and their own perceived limit. They also discover how they as the individual take risks or perform under pressure. How they can give or receive support from other people in taking “appropriate” risk and how working with others can help individuals to achieve more than they thought they could accomplish, is also highlighted.
The skill of our facilitators allows your delegates leave with a positive experience. There is a euphoria of elation for those that achieve their own goals and make it through the top course. The low ropes allow the team to prepare in a comfort zone and practice the skills required to operate up top. It also allows those that will never make it to the higher echelons to understand the pressure of those operating under immense pressure. There are very meaningful support roles for the mere mortals below and absolutely no sense of failure as they assist, and encourage their team’s high flyers.
- Amazing and Adventure Races
Whether the nature of your event is a conference or customer entertainment package or a teambuild, we ensure that your outcomes are tangible and you perceive value. After discussing your brief with you – and depending on the city or venue – we will design an amazing/adventure race. The race can be designed to focus on sightseeing, adventure or the clues can be made very cryptic to challenge the intellect. It is so important to assure the event matches the demographic profile of the group. We have various transport options and have used from donkey carts in a small village, township taxi’s, metered taxis, limousines, hired vehicles and have even had a dealership sponsor a fleet of cars before. Imagine the guests of the large corporate that take the lift to the basement to find bass thumping taxis waiting!
From their arrival the delegates are to feel special and know that the hosts have gone out of their way to host them in a special environment with great entertainment. Delegates are split into teams that suit the transport mode, and will be supplied with their own team bandanas and receive a booklet of clues, escape routes and challenges. Some of the stops will have challenges that the team has to complete, all against the clock and points to be scored. We have a myriad of challenges ranging from tame to torrid, thought invoking to abseiling fire fighting.
We often use interactive communication such as the internet, MMS and SMS. It all depends on the venue. Frontier Events will have various facilitators at some stations facilitating the challenges and equipment for each of the challenges. We will also take photographs at some of the stations for evidence of the task being completed. At the after party we show a rolling presentation of the challenge photographs, much to the delight and chagrin of participants.
We are proud of our adventure/ amazing races and they are renowned in the Eastern Cape by corporates as the leading product available. We have a huge array of challenges in areas ranging from the Wild Coast, Addo, to the Garden Route where we have successfully hosted these events.
- Kalypso Kricket
Our own Frontier Events version of 20/20 is an absolute winner! This energiser is ever popular at team builds, afternoon conference sessions, school camps, corporate breakaways or incentive tours. Lead your team through the “marquee Long Room” set up on the side of a field or tennis court at a conference venue. Slog and bounce your way to stardom as you strive to be inscribed onto the venue’s Honours Board. Cucumber sandwiches, carnival atmosphere, Pimms and G & T’s are the order of the day.Our umpires are wired to the powerful outdoor sound system, music plays for wickets, ducks, 4’s and 6’s! Team captains are wired with sound and better watch their language. Interviews with the captains will take place during the match and our portable artificial astro pitch plays with great consistency.
Local rules rule do count: one hand one bounce and sometimes even tip and run, depending on the demographics and objectives. We present this indoors, outdoors, on the beach, on a field, on a tennis court at a conference venue, at night or even at game farms.
- Fun and Forfeit Archery
This intervention sees a wall made of straw bales swathed in balloons of many colours. A table is set up bearing fear factor style forfeits and off course some prizes. Think of raw chicken liver, fishy cat food, and chilli’s marinated in a North African curry blend . . . The fun includes a few shooters, drinks, droe wors, biltong and cashews and some more. After a brief lesson in the science of Robin Hood the group will set out to shoot the colour of their choice. We have often used this as a filler to another event, conference session or tour to great effect. It works well as a joiner-upper between the conference delegates and their spouses or prior to an evening of entertainment. Fun and forfeit archery is certain to get the buzz going.

Roles have to be designated but the experts are provided by Frontier Events. The red carpet is rolled out – it is your time to shine!

The teams get to eat the fruits of their labour as they bond with colleagues, build better working relationships, boost team spirits and create a unified sense of accomplishment. When we judge the final culinary creations we will give feedback on the food flavours, textures and presentation, participation, planning, and creativity of the team. - 4×4 Derby
Let the builder, designer, advertiser, marketer and racing car driver inside you come out in the 4×4 Derby. With 4×4 Derby, teams must build, brand and market a remote controlled 4×4 car within two hours. This includes brainstorming a name for the vehicle as well as creating a mini-advertising strateg for an advert that will be videotaped and shown on television for everyone to watch, laugh at, cheer at, or throw popcorn at.Once teams have built and branded their Ferrari-fast car it is time to show what their creation has got under the hood. Teams will race their cars around a track and have only two laps to set up the fastest possible time they can manage. Teams with great support tend to have an edge on the rest, so teams are encouraged to create a team cheer to fire up the engines and make a grand entrance to the racetrack. The team that sets up the fastest lap wins. 4×4 Derby is recommended as part of an Adventure Zone or as a half-day team building session.Combining three fantastic activities in one, the 4 x 4 Indoor Derby has everything to offer a corporate team. This is a value-added product which combines some of our most successful programs into one exciting three hour package. Each team is given the task to design and construct a model 4×4 which they have to complete from start to finish. Only through communication, support and logic can the completed product be successful.Once it is finished each team has to create an advert, with the props and cameras provided, that markets and promotes their vehicle. All teams will have the opportunity to view their promotional infomercial. Points will be awarded to the team with the best advert.
Let the races begin! Lanes and obstacles lie in wait as the cars try to set the best time. Each person will be provided with funny money that they can use to bet on any vehicle placed in the races. The winning team is the group that collects the most winnings. A fantastic product that incorporates construction, promotion and a race day for all to enjoy!
- Horse Sense
A new and exciting Frontier Events initiative for businesses, corporates, individuals and anyone who wants to explore and improve their own inter-personal skills.
We connect people and businesses through an objective, non-discriminatory medium: The Horse.
We offer unique and cutting edge team-building and life changing workshops, designed to change the way you relate to co-workers and team members.
Our Horse-Sense workshops provide the highest quality service so that your delegates have a truly memorable day out – in an environment that is far removed from your factory, office block or boardroom – an environment that is set to inspire.
This unique Frontier Events intervention can be applied to a team building day, incentive day, conference energizer, conference or workshop breakaway, school camp or a leadership course.
Getting accurate undistorted feedback on your own non verbal communication will allow you to foster strong relationships that will make people go the extra mile for you.
Why the horse?
- Horses are colour blind; they don’t care whether a person is black or white, making them ideal diversity trainers.
- Horses have no concern with material goods and only judge character – your bank account means nothing to them.
- Horses pick up on your energy and can even match their heartbeat to yours. They innately read your body language, and cannot be fooled.
- In return, they won’t try to fool you back; they won’t ingratiate themselves or flatter you.
- Horses are an excellent ambassador for how we should lead our lives
- Horses are completely honest.
- Horses have no ego
- Horses accept change but are consistent in their behavior
- Horses are creative, enjoy an easy life and rewards
- Horses never stop trying
- Horses forgive time and time again
- Horses like themselves
- Horses enjoy working in harmony with others
- Horses are honest and can’t lie
- Horses interpret every gesture you make, and their reaction will expose what you are communicating – Not what you intend communicating.
If you are looking to build strong teams, develop leadership and unleash the potential of your staff members and team leaders, the Horse Sense program will excite and inspire you. The business world places ever-increasing pressure and challenges on corporates, management and staff.
Sales teams need to understand that persuasion is far more than words. Ground breaking research by Professor Albert Mehrabian discovered that 55% of meaning is communicated by nonverbal gestures and 38% is communicated by voice tone. Only 7% of meaning is communicated by spoken word. The world’s greatest leaders have throughout history used this knowledge to influence people at a subconscious level, inspiring people into following them to victory where others have failed.
Allow our Horse-Sense program to show you how becoming fluent in non-verbal language can help build and develop strong teams, develop leadership and unleash potential.
Our Horse-Sense facilitator, Claire Groeneveld, is an experienced horse riding instructor, with over 20 years experience in the field of horsemanship and coaching.
If you want to be a great leader, improve your relationships or sales then contact Frontier Events.
